Communities for a New California Education Fund is taking the lead in building support for a BMX Park in Southwest Fresno. The Bike Park is an idea first expressed back in April 2015 by Fresno youth engaged in designing the skate park that will open at Romain Park on May 5, 2016.
In February 2016: CNCEF Committee members and staff met with City of Fresno Councilmember Oliver Baines, who represents Southwest Fresno's District 3. Councilmember Baines expressed enthusiasm and support for the construction of a Bike Park in Southwest Fresno.
Councilmember Baines joined the growing number of supporters we have met by speaking to our neighbors in Southwest Fresno. In the last two months over 530 residents have signed pledge cards of support for the construction of a new bike park. The supporters represent 85% support of the over 700 residents we have spoken to.
Our goal is to have a community meeting to develop a plan for locating the BMX park at an existing park in Southwest Fresno. All our neighbors are invited. Fresno youth, parents and interested community residents are welcome to help create a blueprint for what they want to see in a BMX park. We aspire this park to be a place for Fresno youth and families to enjoy healthy activities in a safe environment.
The video below is of the Mosqueda Bike Park which was constructed in 2009 at the Mosqueda Community Center in Southeast Fresno. Imagine a similar bike park in Southwest Fresno!
RSVP below to join us Thursday April 28th at 6:00pm as we start planning how to make our Southwest Fresno Bike Park a reality.
