Redistricting, following the census, is intended to be one of the most inclusive exercises of our democracy where the voices of all residents and communities are heard, respected, and included in the drawing of our district boundaries.
There's only one hearing remaining on March 2nd at 6:00! You have the opportunity to speak up for the Arabia Street area and help ensure that your community remains whole in the redistricting process.
Here's an example of how you can email in your public comment to speak up for your neighborhood:

To the Indio City Council:
My name is [full name] and I live on [street name] near Arabia Street. Arabia Street is a strong community that encompasses the Riverside County Fairgrounds which holds events like the National Date Festival and has regular COVID testing sites. We hold weekly swap meets and this area has many county services within it, such as the Family Health Clinic, WIC, and mental health services.
The Arabia Street area is a community of interest that must be kept whole so that these services and resources can be in the same district as the residents who predominantly use and benefit from them. Map 108 separates the neighborhoods to the East of Arabia Street from resources we need which are directly across from us, just west of Arabia Street. This effectively removes these resources from the district. Given that the neighborhoods that need them are in the immediate geographic area, there is no reason for this community of interest to be split.
Dividing my neighborhood in this way disenfranchises my family and neighbors by separating us from the resources we need by removing them from our district. My community of interest must remain whole within the final adopted map.
Map 109, The Indio Residents United Map, does not split my community of interest and keeps it whole within district 4. Please adopt map 109 or adapt map 108 so that it keeps my community whole. Thank you.
