Don’t you just love being vaccinated against COVID-19? Wouldn’t it be great if everyone in your neighborhood knew how safe, effective, easy it is to get protected against the virus? Well, worry no more! CNC has got your neighborhood covered with our extensive COVID-19 vaccination outreach and education program, and we’re covering all the bases to ensure everyone can have a safe and healthy summer. Here’s a look into what we’ve been doing the past week to improve our neighborhoods:
To highlight the importance of our youth getting vaccinated, we have announced our upcoming COVID-19 Youth Vaccination Forum on Tuesday, June 29th at 6:30 pm. We will be having an honest discussion about parental trust, perceptions, and doubts regarding the vaccine. Remember – the vaccine is free for everyone and is available for anyone 12 years old and up, so encourage those in your life who are eligible to sign up today!
CNC is currently partnering with Univision to encourage vaccinations utilizing people from our neighborhoods. We are sharing our stories of hope and survival throughout this pandemic exclusively on the Facebook pages of Univision Noticias 21. This is an amazing platform to highlight California residents just like you – so tune in and get to know your neighbors! Nos vemos en Univision Noticias 21 Fresno Facebook! One of the residents we are highlighting in this partnership is Israel Piza Guerrero, a migrant farmworker and community leader who has endured extreme hardships to keep his family healthy during this pandemic. Israel’s story will go live from Univision Noticias Univision 21 Fresno’s Facebook on Monday, June 14th at 1 pm. To watch his full story now on CNC’s YouTube channel, click here.
Our communication endeavors are being bolstered by our on-the-ground teams. In Coachella, organizers have soared past their outreach goals in record time, calling over 30,000 families informing them of the vaccination process and helping residents schedule their vaccination appointments. Organizers have hand-delivered over 35,000 face masks as well as COVID-19 posters and door hangers with information on how to schedule a vaccination. Residents have been extremely grateful for our continued updates as vaccine eligibility rapidly evolves!
The fun doesn't stop there! Organizers in the San Joaquin and Central Valleys have reached out to over 35,000 families and counting, making sure that everyone knows the safety and efficacy of the vaccine and have helped hundreds of residents schedule their appointments. These organizers have also delivered over 20,000 posters and door hangers to residents and local businesses to help boost local vaccination rates.
Throughout the San Joaquin Valley, our organizers have been on fire getting creative with their outreach work. Pedro Navarro Cruz, an organizer on our Fresno team, has organized the Inaugural Pre-City of Fresno Budget Hearing Soccer Game happening on Friday, June 11th, at 7:00 PM at the Dicky Playground tennis courts in Fresno. This event is an incredible use of our public parks: getting active together and having fun, all while getting to know our neighbors and discussing the collective vision for the future of Fresno’s parks. Don’t miss it!
Mayte Aguilar Cruz, a CNC organizer on the Merced team, invited residents via social media to our first virtual Housing Committee meeting for residents to discuss the needs of their neighborhoods. This event took place on June 9th and was an excellent success! CNC looks forward to further providing a platform for residents to connect, express their needs, and fight for the changes they want to see. We are excited to see what this committee will accomplish!
With the CNC communications crew complementing all of our current fieldwork through multiple channels, we are also uplifting and celebrating both our graduates and the LGBTQ+ community throughout the month of June. Our very own Program Assistant, Sarah Martinez-Peña, graduated from Paul Mitchell and is on her way to obtaining her Cosmetology license. Congratulations, Sarah!
