Creating Change with CNC!

Build Back Better:

The House has just passed historic legislation that would secure the resources that our families and neighborhoods have needed for so long to help reverse the social inequities we face today. The Senate must act next to make this bill a reality! Read more about the Build Back Better Act

Redistricting in Fresno:

📍Four of the five Fresno County supervisors voted Tuesday on a new district map — an alternate that had no vocal support. The map came from six alternates drawn up by county staffers after the Board of Supervisors began to settle on a map that drew controversy, because it was drawn by Republican lawyer and strategist Alex Tavlian, but detractors say the new map is still status quo. 📍Kaya Herron, Deputy Director of the Fresno Metro Black Chamber of Commerce, went on Sunday Morning Matters with Alexan Balekian to discuss the Fresno Inclusive Families Coalition Map and why we are at a critical juncture in the Fresno redistricting process. If you need a quick debrief of the Fresno redistricting process to catch up, this is it!

Kids & COVID-19 Vaccines:

Did you know that Pfizer’s children’s vaccine is 1/3 of the amount of the adult vaccine? It is also administered in a two-dose series, and more than 2.6 million 5- to 11-year-olds have already gotten their first dose! You can sign your children up with their pediatrician or at MyTurn.ca.gov and read more about kids and vaccines here.

El Futuro Está en Tu Poder!

CNC’s Virtual Community Forum on the COVID-19 Vaccine for Children: Since California health officials have indicated that they are prepared to do everything possible to vaccinate children ages 5 to 11 against COVID-19, we decided to reach our families with critical information about vaccines in the best way possible: through Univision! We spoke with Lupita Lomeli from Univision Fresno; Monica Morales, MPH of the state department of health who worked on the Safe Schools for All initiative as part of the California Department of Public Health; Eloisa Gonzalez, MD, MPH; and Arturo Sanchez, father of two children. The forum focused on how we can make a better future together, with our little ones included as part of the solution. The power is in our hands to defeat COVID-19, and that power lies in vaccines.

Congratulations to 10-year-old Stacy, who just got her first COVID-19 shot! Stacy dice que no le dolió la vacuna y que fue fácil. She had the support of her guardians and her doll to accompany her through her appointment! She shared that she’s happy to be able to protect herself and her family by getting this vaccine. ¡Es tu turno! Don’t wait a second longer – make your appointment at myturn.ca.gov. Great job, Stacy!

CNC’s Redistricting Associate argues against a map reflecting the status quo before the Fresno County Board of Supervisors during a public hearing (Eric Zamora/Fresno Bee)

Fresno County Redistricting: The Board of Supervisors selected a map that divides communities and upholds the status quo. Throughout the entire redistricting process, CNC has engaged in a diverse coalition to create the Inclusive Families Map, which keeps communities and their interests whole so they may advocate for themselves. We’ve spoken at every meeting in support of our neighborhoods and against upholding the status quo for another decade. The journey isn’t over yet – and CNC will continue to make our voices heard every step of the way.
