CNC is here to support our families and neighborhoods. We welcome you to get involved in our Spanish-English bilingual programs, whether it’s using our public parks to connect with our neighbors and get active, attending our workshops to learn about civic engagement processes, or even participating in government meetings to make our voices heard. Take action with us:
MERCED – Don’t miss it! CNC and partner organizations are hosting a free COVID-19 vaccination clinic Friday, July 16 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at El Bajio Supermarket, 1010 W. 16th Street in Merced. In partnership with Jakara Movement, Lideres Campesinas, and the United Farm Workers Foundation, we are bringing the vaccines straight to Merced residents to make getting vaccinated as easy as getting groceries! The clinic and vaccines are entirely free and available to anyone 12 and older, no appointment necessary. Volunteers will be available in English, Spanish, and Punjab.
Rosa Inguanzo, CNC Community Organizer in Merced, has been working diligently with her team to help organize this free, life-saving event and encourage residents to get vaccinated. Listen to Rosa's special invitation here. “We are in a race against time to protect our Merced families through the vaccine,” says Rosa. “Hyperlocal outbreaks are a real threat here; decreased mask wearing and social distancing plus increased gatherings in an area where the majority of people are unvaccinated puts us at greater risk of contracting COVID-19.” Invite your Merced friends and if you live somewhere else, reach out to someone you care about today to see if they’re vaccinated! You can help your friends schedule their vaccinations at myturn.ca.gov.
Bringing art to our neighborhood parks: CNC’s Fresno Community Organizer, Pedro Navarro Cruz, just held a special book reading with a twist! Combining futsal, poetry, and music, Pedro held this incredible event showing exactly what neighborhood parks are designed for. Joseph Rios, local poet and author of Shadowboxing, did a reading of his work and was joined by Romeo Guzman, author of the short story collection Pocho Blues. The poetry reading was followed by a pick-up futsal match with live music from DJ HipHopLove! Want to attend our next event? Stay in the loop and follow us on Facebook.
Redistricting is about our power and our representation: Organizers from Fresno showed up in full force this week at a Fresno County redistricting workshop in Riverdale. Redistricting is an important process that redraws district lines based on Census data, ultimately impacting how our families are represented by elected officials. Our organizers filled the first row and provided public comment to ensure that everyone in our neighborhoods are fairly and equally represented in government.
Strengthening our neighborhoods through education: In the Eastern Coachella Valley, Lead Community Organizer Anna Lisa Vargas led an informative redistricting workshop for the community. The workshop provided an introduction to redistricting and explained the impact it has on ensuring fair representation for all families. Workshop participants worked on identifying communities of interest and learning best practices for how to provide public comment at future redistricting hearings. Thank you to Anna Lisa and the Coachella team for empowering our neighbors with the tools they need to make their voices heard! Follow us on social media for the next workshop!
Despierta Valle Central! Karina Martinez, CNC’s Director of Communications, made a special guest appearance on Despierta Valle Central to say good morning to the Central Valley and educate viewers about COVID-19 variants and the importance of vaccinating our families, including children ages 12+. Seguimos en la lucha contra el COVID-19. Ayúdenos vacunándose y / o compartiendo este video con sus amigos y familiares. Karina shared one of the easiest ways to get vaccinated: attending our FREE vaccine clinic on Friday, July 16 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at El Bajio Supermarket, 1010 W. 16th Street in Merced! Can’t make it? Don’t live in Merced? Schedule your vaccination for another day here.
CNC on TV! CNC Canvassers in Sacramento made the news for their non-stop efforts to ensure every one of their neighbors has the knowledge and resources necessary to schedule their COVID-19 vaccinations and get protected against the virus. Nicole Openshaw, CNC Canvasser and Health and Safety Monitor, said, “Our community is currently under-vaccinated and we want to make sure that everyone knows how to access their vaccinations.” Watch the full story here.
