The future of our health is rooted in our neighborhoods. That’s why we’re working to bring health equity for California families whether it be by supporting vaccination efforts or providing mental health reminders and hotlines. There are so many gaps in our systems, but here’s what we’re doing to support health equity one household at a time:
We’ve got our masks and vests marching through neighborhoods where working families who are most at risk of contracting COVID-19 live. Have you seen us?
CNC is rapidly expanding our COVID-19 vaccination education and outreach programs – in addition to talking to nearly 30,000 residents about scheduling their vaccinations and informing them of vaccine safety and efficacy, we’ve delivered nearly 35,000 door hangers and flyers to both residents and local businesses alike. Our Spanish/English vaccine posters can be spotted all around the neighborhoods we serve, with residents rolling up their sleeves to encourage others to get their vaccinations!
Amping up their vaccination registrations exponentially, our San Joaquin and Central Valley canvassing teams have knocked on over 30,000 doors and made huge leaps in helping hundreds of residents successfully register for their vaccination appointments. These teams have delivered over 16,000 educational door hangers and flyers to homes and businesses. Tag us @cncedfund if your favorite store has one of these posters!
Remember, vaccines are available to everyone ages 12 and up! CNC will continue to highlight the importance of children ages 12 and over getting vaccinated. We teamed up with Radio Campesina 106.3 to talk with one California caretaker, Lorena Lopez, about getting the kids in her household vaccinated.
Together, we can put an end to this pandemic. Our friends, families, and neighbors have struggled through the pandemic, facing different hardships and we’ll continue to share their stories. This week, we heard from Isaí Barrios, an educator who shared with us the struggles of being a teacher to rural students during a pandemic. He’s concerned about having a plan to safely return to the classrooms and leveling educational opportunities for his students in a way that supports their health. Watch Isaí’s story here.
In response to the ongoing housing crisis in California, Nicholas González, a Policy Analyst at the UCLA Latino Policy & Politics Initiative (LPPI), provided insights on housing issues during our virtual COVID-19 housing forum, which corroborates residents' lived experiences. Housing is a social justice issue for our working families, and lack of housing during a pandemic has exposed the faults in our system that are hurting black and brown families the most.
